Fund insecticide-treated bed nets

The Against Malaria Foundation funds long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets (LLINs), distributed in mass campaigns with national malaria programmes in low- and middle-income countries. Nearly every dollar from the public goes directly to nets; AMF is rated a top charity by GiveWell. Mass distribution campaigns aim to cover entire regions at once, since malaria spreads fastest where coverage has gaps.

Our take

Worth flagging that this is one of the more rigorously vetted charities on this list — GiveWell and Giving What We Can both rank it a top pick, largely because almost every dollar buys an actual net rather than covering overhead. The mass-campaign approach, covering whole regions at once rather than piecemeal, is also deliberate: malaria spreads fastest through the gaps left by partial coverage.

Where the money goes

Purchase and distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets; sources cite roughly $2–4 per net, each protecting about two people for up to three years.
