Support a girl's education in rural Africa

CAMFED supports marginalised girls in rural Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe to attend and stay in school, funding bursaries covering tuition, uniforms and books. Much of the mentoring comes from CAMFED Association (CAMA), a network of over 178,000 women educated through the programme who now support the next generation of girls.

Our take

Compared with Room to Read's girls'-education programme elsewhere on this list, CAMFED's distinguishing feature is CAMA: mentoring delivered by women who went through the same bursary system themselves. We couldn't confirm an exact cost-per-girl figure from CAMFED's own materials, so confidence here is medium rather than high.
