Fund wheat flour fortification against anaemia

Fortify Health partners with wheat flour mills and state governments in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal, India, to add iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 to wheat flour sold in the open market and distributed through government food-safety-net schemes, aiming to reduce anaemia at population scale. It has received a GiveWell Incubation Grant, a grant from the EA Global Health and Development Fund, and an $8.2 million, 5-year grant from Open Philanthropy in 2021.

Our take

Worth being precise about the distinction: Fortify Health is a GiveWell incubation grantee, not (yet) a full GiveWell Top Charity like Malaria Consortium or New Incentives elsewhere on this site — an earlier-stage but still well-funded signal, repeated across three separate grant decisions from credible funders.
